Hairy Woodpecker

Hairy Woodpeckers are year round residents. They are frequent visitors to our part of Johnson Creek. I've seen them individually, as adults pairs and their immature offspring but not as a parent showing their offspring where to find sources of food. They appear to be more independent than their Downy or Pileated cousins.

Juvenile Hairy Woodpecker Gallery: A series of images tracing the progression of the red crowns on young male Hairy Woodpeckers.
